Big Day for Remote Control Sailing at Little Harbour
Round 4 of the RC Laser Tour of Abaco travelled to Little Harbour Saturday, February 8. We were greeted with a warm sunny day in the low 80’s and a high tide. Most of us had some lunch at Pete’s Pub, which is one of the best out-of-the-way lunch spots around, but it is well worth the trip. Winds were blowing right down the beach, skewed to the south a bit, but shifty at about 6-8 mph. We set the starting line right off the deck and the patrons at the Pub were treated to some RC Laser racing.
We were joined by Tim and Brandon Sands, as well as Tom Parr, all first timers. Tim and Brandon are by no means newbies to sailing, and their sailing skills moved them right up the ranks. Brandon had 2 second place finishes, and Tim was often seen at the front of the pack. I can’t remember how many times I overheard Brandon say this was so much fun. Joey, where were you?
Most of us were barefoot in the unseasonably warm water following our boats up and down the beach. Kids were swimming, dogs were up and down the beach, a turtle was swimming in the harbour, and the pub was busy with customers and the racing added some excitement to the day. We sailed 5 one lap races, and finished up with two 2-lap races. Anders Ljungholm was third overall winning race 6, and Dwayne Wallas finished second winning race 5. Jim Kaighin won the day with 5 first place finishes.
Dave Mulock set a good course and Lenore Mulock kept the starts clean. Ylva Ljungholm was heard as usual on the countdown clock. We all gathered at the Palm Room for Lenore’s famous brownies and some liquid refreshments. Thanks to Amy Sands and Ylva Ljungholm for taking some great pictures. We will return to Snappas on February 22.
