Nick Mortgu Takes Hangover Cup in Durham
The Second Annual Hangover Cup for RC Lasers was sailed a day prior to the actual hangovers under A rigs at the very pleasant pond at Meridian Corporate Center in Durham. Nine skippers participated in the informal regatta, and nine races were completed. AMYA RC Laser Class Secretary, Nick Mortgu from the West Jersey RC Laser Fleet sailed consistently well to win the event, and his name will be engraved on the perpetual trophy. Bob Szczepanski was second in a stalwart defense of his title from last year, and Chase Thomas finished third. The very shifty winds frequently re-shuffled the fleet. Some of the down-fleet guys had some bullets; Dan missed three races. Finishes (except for Nick’s) were widely variable. There is no dishonor in being down the roster in this event, it was all good.
