NOTICE OF RACE

2025 AMYA RC Laser National Championship Regatta
21st Annual Marco Island RC Laser Regatta

February 28 – March 2, 2025

Sponsors: Marco Island Model Yacht Club (MIMYC) in conjunction with the City of Marco Island Department of Parks and Recreation. The regatta is organized under the overall authority of the MIMYC and the American Model Yacht Assocation (AMYA) RC Laser Class.

Venue: Cale Model Yacht Sailing Center, Frank E. Mackle Community Park, corner Balboa CT and S. Heathwood Drive, Marco Island, FL 34145

Rules: The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing for 2025-2028, as amended by the United States Sailing prescriptions and incorporating Appendix E-Radio Controlled Boat Racing Rules, the current AMYA RC Laser Class Rules, this NOR, the Sailing Instructions (to be available by February 22, 2025) and further instructions as announced by the Race Director (RD) during the event.

RRS 31 is changed to read “While racing, a boat shall not touch a starting mark while starting or a finishing mark while finishing.”

Eligibility: All entrants must be AMYA members in good standing (www.theamya.org) and have registered their boats with the RC Laser Class association (www.rclaser.org).

Entries: Limited to 30 (due by February 22, 2025).

Entry fee: $70.00 includes Saturday & Sunday continental breakfast and lunch, sodas & water, awards & skippers’ gift. Registration may only be completed online at https://www.theamya.org/RegattaDetail.asp?RGID=10538 and must be paid upon submission. Extra lunches both days and extra regatta shirts may also be purchased when registering.

Format: Two fleets (Gold/Silver) system: Qualifying races, in odd-even format, will be held Saturday to divide the total fleet into two fleets. These scores will be carried forward and racing will continue Saturday and Sunday in Gold and Silver Fleets.

Awards: Prizes will be awarded to the top five (5) finishers in the Gold Fleet and the top three (3) finishers in the Silver Fleet. There will be two additional prizes awarded: the Southern Circuit Champion and the “Sail Like 53” award. The Southern Circuit Champion will be awarded to the top skipper who sailed in the NCR as well as one East Coast and one West Coast Southern Circuit regatta. The “Sail Like 53” award is presented in memory of former AMYA President, and long-time Marco Island Midwinter regatta RD, David Brawner, to the sailor who most exemplifies the qualities and attributes of Dave during the regatta.

6:00 pm Welcome Happy Hour/Dinner – CJ’s on the Bay

Saturday, March 1, 2025
8:30 am Check-in, boat inspection, continental breakfast (Happy’s Place, tiki hut)
9:30 am Skippers Meeting
10:00 am Qualifying Races Start to divide fleet
Mid-day Box lunch provided at tiki hut, racing continues
4:00 pm Final race of day will start no later than 4:00 pm
6:30 pm Cocktails/dinner – TBD
(We are still negotiating on pricing/venue for this event; an email will be forthcoming to all registrants in January).

9:30 am Skippers Meeting
10:00 am Racing begins

3:15 pm Final race of day will start no later than 3:15 pm
3:30 pm Raffle drawings
3:45 pm Awards Presentation
4:30 pm Unorganized Post Race get-together

injury/death during this regatta’s events.

Competition: Competitors agree to compete in the spirit of SPORTSMANSHIP and the CORINTHIAN SPIRIT. SAIL LIKE 53!

In the event of any protested behavior which is deemed to be a breach of good manners or sportsmanship, or which may bring the sport into disrepute, the Race Director, any designated race officials, or competitor, may protest the party or parties in accordance with RRS #2.

Penalties available to the RD and/or Protest Committee, include exclusion from the Race in question, or expulsion from the regatta as per RRS #69.2 and #69.3.

In the event a skipper is penalized under RRS #2 at this event, a report of the incident shall be sent to the AMYA RC Laser Class Secretary and the AMYA Executive Board for review.
