2020 National Championship Regatta Postponed

Our 2020 National Championship Regatta to be held in Corpus Christi TX has flown the postponement flag for the November date. Regatta host Ray Seta has already re-scheduled the regatta to be included in the TEXAS Race Week January 22, 23, 24. This will still be the 2020 RC Laser NCR. Please take the time to read Ray’s note to the skippers who have pre-registered. (See Ray’s note below)

I wanted to thank you for your support and enthusiasm to enter the 2020 RC Laser National Championship Regatta (NCR). I personally know of at least 8 more skippers that I have had correspondence with that have not entered yet because they had a notion it might come to this. Our entire 2020 racing year seems to have become a bust for many of us around the country due to this COVID 19 pandemic. Some USA counties are worse than others, and all with different restrictions, as well as States.

This has been a very strange year as you know already. I’m sure all of you are as eager to just be able to grab the boat and start sailing/racing again every weekend as I am. After speaking with all my committee members and our RC Laser Class Secretary, Nick Mortgu, I am sorry to have to make this decision for Oct 30th, 31st, 1st, 2020 RC Laser National Championship Regatta (NCR), that we will have to postpone to a later date due to the COVID 19 conditions in Corpus Christi, TX, specifically Nueces County.

I, as Regatta Chairman, have a few options already in the works to still be able to host our 2020 NCR in beautiful Corpus Christi, TX. It just so happens that I and a group of others have already been in talks and organizing a Corpus Christi RC Race Week in January 2021. This event will consist of five (5) RC Classes, with RC Lasers kicking off the event on the 1st weekend using our exact same schedule that was planned for our postponed October RC Laser NCR. This event has the full support and cooperation of the same Corpus Christi YC that we already had a working relation with and were going to utilize their facility anyway in October. This “TEXAS Race Week” would start Friday January 22, 2021, and go the entire week till the next weekend ending on January 31st. The RC Laser NCR portion of this event will be slated for January 22, 23, & 24, 2021 using the exact same schedule as our now postponed October NCR event. Other Classes being raced during this week will be IOM’s, 10Raters, Marbleheads, and DF95’s. At this point this Texas Race Week will be a full NCR for all Classes with a pending decision from one Class that still might have a green light on their current October 2020 NCR.

This truly looks like a win-win situation for us as our new date and resources for the 2020 RC Laser AMYA NCR. I truly apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause, but I wanted to let everyone know as soon as possible as to not start to make Hotel or Flight reservations for an October event. I am currently working with the same Host Hotel to honor all previously stated rates. Our current 2020 RC Laser NOR has been sent to the organizers of the 2021 Texas Race Week and every detail of that NOR should remain the same.

Again, words can not express how I feel about this postponement as I have never had to postpone an event in my 30 years of organizing regattas. Please still consider attending the January event in Corpus Christi, as this venue has always been an incredible experience for RC racing this time of year. Bring your D-Rig!!!!

Until I see everyone again, please be safe and sail fast!
