2023 AMYA RC Laser Region 5 Championship
Congratulations to Mark Cooper for taking 1st place at the RC Laser Region 5 Championship. Breaking the tie and taking 2nd was Eric Gregory and my Ray Seta came in 3rd in Gold Fleet. First place in Silver Fleet was Bob Robert Piper , 2nd was Richard Delgado , 3rd was Bob George. Special Finisher was Jacob Amesquita (not pictured). We sailed 12 races, winds were 5-7 out of the south and it was a warm 90 degrees in South Texas. We served breakfast tacos from Taco Cabana then a delicious BBQ lunch of chicken, sausage, cream corn, green beans catered by The Charcoal Grill. Thanks to our lunch crew of Joshua Seta, Chris Reyna and great grandson Mikey for picking up and setting up the food for our skippers. We had our WSC’s traditional Paletas, Mexican Ice Cream along with watermelon (thanks Richard Delgado) for snack. As always with any regatta hosted by WSC, the mission statement of ”no one goes home hungry” was again kept up! At one point we had had 15 boats registered for this regatta and at the last minute we had some cancellations, leaving us with a lot of food. Many of our out-of-town skippers were able to pack “to go” packages for their trip home that evening!
Of course it takes a few dedicated WSC’s members to help pull an event off and I greatly appreciate the effort by everyone helpingout and the extra cash donations from many skippers to help with the cost associated with so many last minute cancellations. Great friends make great events without a financial burden on the club!!! A huge shout out to Josie Josephine Camarillo for helping me with Race Committee duties.
