Regatta Report
The second annual So Jersey MYC RC Laser Regatta was in the hands of mother nature and she delivered a devilish wind as predicted. The initial races were sailed with a light northeasterly but as the day moved on it gradually clocked to the south as the tide changed late morning. We were able to complete only four races before the lunch break. Course changes and lots of buoy movement kept the RC on its toes throughout the day. Local late entrant, Mike McGuckin, opened the day with a bullet. We called it his “mike drop” moment as he did not sail another race, retiring undefeated.

Jim Flach, from Norristown, PA, and Simsbury, CT’s, Glenn Chalder, kept it interesting at the front all day winning a combined six of the fourteen races sailed. Flach prevailed in the end winning by six points over Chalder. As the wind freshened, Chalder comfortably controlled the A-sail while almost all the fleet moved to the B-sail in the late afternoon.

A strong mention goes to Metedeconk River YC skipper, Tom Bird, and Spring Lake’s, Domenick Bonanno, who were in 6th and 7th at the lunch break but rose in the afternoon to finish on the podium. Tom Bird, won four races including the last two finishing only four points behind Chalder. Gidge Glenn also thrived in the building winds with two firsts late in the day.

This was leg #4 of the 2024 Liberty RC Laser League. Next up is the Cooper River YC RC Laser Regatta on November 23rd in Collingswood, NJ.
Hope to see more of you RC Laser folks there.
