During the week, the forecast for Saturday was looking pretty grim, with rain and heavy breezes from the northeast into the mid 30’s, with real feel temperatures in the 20’s.

The reality of Saturday was fortunately better. Still cold, still misty, but while there were recorded wind gusts overnight into the 40’s, the real heavy breeze had started to slacken by mid morning. We started on time to off the western side of the docks in mid to high teens of breezes, with the entire fleet in D sails. With three no shows, we could have gone with everyone on the line, but instead the RC opted to continue grouped heat racing, to limit the number of sailors on the main dock for safety in the wind and mist. The RC had a course set for a NE breeze with a windward/offset, mid line start and finish, and a leeward gate.

The morning races featured everyone in D sails, fighting some decent sized waves. Wind was generally out of the NE with some shifting to the north, but as the morning wore on, the breeze began shifting to the north. Competition was tough with firsts and seconds spread around the top of the fleet. Starts were clean with only a couple of OCS calls, some challenging windward roundings due to the waves and some untimely shifts.

After a hearty lunch and a couple of frosty beverages, the afternoon races features a more northerly breeze and it continued to lighten up, to by early afternoon most competitors had switched to C sails.

After DNS in the first race due to a blown receiver, Will Demand recovered with a fairly decent morning. However, Will won 5 out of his last 6 races to take the overall win and the Region 2 championship. Stu Challoner finished 2nd Brendan Hogan finished 3rd. Congrats to all our competitors for braving a challenging day, and we look forward to seeing everyone next year!
