2020 RC Laser Noroton New Year’s Day Regatta Report
What a great way to ring in the New Year! The Noroton Yacht Club RC Laser Fleet was extremely pleased with such a fantastic turnout of accomplished sailors to participate in its 2nd Annual New Year’s Day regatta.
The Regatta was held at the Noroton Yacht Club in Darien CT, and racing for the day was held in Noroton harbor in the vicinity of the club’s Main pier. Competitors traveled from all over the Tri-State area (NY/NJ/CT) and couldn’t have asked for a better day. The weather was chilly 35 degrees with a consistent 10-15 knot breeze from the W-NW.
All were greeted with hot coffee, donuts and bagels to counteract the celebrations from the evening before. The Race Committee, headed by – PRO – Peter Wilson, assisted by Connor Brady and Spencer Smith did a great job of keeping everyone organized and on the water.
A total of 18 races were completed – 9 in the morning session before a break for Hot Chili, and another 9 races completed after lunch. It was a full day of sailing followed by refreshments and awards at the NYC bar.
Scoring System – All boats competed in a Round-Robin Rotation – so all boats were able to sail against all competitors throughout the day. Each sailor raced in 12 races. Low Point System A2 was utilized – and everyone’s 2 lowest scores were excluded.
Racing was competitive all day – however as the day went on it became clear that due to the consistent dominance of sail #18 – Frank Scalisi everyone else was competing for 2nd place! We look forward to a great year of racing ahead and look forward to hosting the 3rd Annual in 2021.
Congratulations to our top three finishers – and thank you to all who participated in this year’s event!
