2021 First Annual Bow Lake Sailing RC Laser Regatta

11 sailors attended the inaugural RC Laser regatta on Bow Lake in Strafford, NH. Sunny skies and warm temperatures accompanied winds that gusted from 1 to about 8. Well, they were about 8 near the windward mark coming from one direction and about 8 near the leeward mark coming from the opposite direction. In between the winds met and created some upperlies, which were tough to navigate! It was B sails all day long for everybody.
After the skipper’s meeting Eric Leitner was kind enough to do a tuning Tips & Tricks session – very helpful, thank you Eric.
At the lunch break after three races, local hotshot Michael Hoydis was leading with a second and two bullets for 4 points, host Bob Shapiro was next with 8 points and Eric Leitner was just behind with 9 points. After lunch Eric turned on the jets but Michael was able to hold him off, winning the regatta 15 points to 16. Bob finished strong winning the last race and ended up third with 21 points. Rob Dresser was just behind doing better as the day progressed with Greg Shapiro up from New York City tailing off in the afternoon to grab 6th place.
Trophies were awarded to the first three finishers; Bow Lake Sailing frisbees and key chains were also handed out. And everyone was able to get RC Laser swag t-shirts and hats, thanks to a donation by Nick Mortgu – thank you Nick!
