2012 Rock Hall Regatta Results
Rock Hall Yacht Club, site of the 2011 RC Laser North American Championship, hosted another great RC Laser Regatta on September 15th. Fifteen skippers answered the call for a day of odds and evens scoring in B sail conditions. Later in the day the last two heats were sailed with A sails, easily handling the dying breezes. It was a very tight series as any one of four or five individuals could have won this one with four guys tied after the first three races. In the end, Dave Branning finished strong and, in a tie breaker with Don Barker, gets the win with Don second and host/boat chaser Tom Lippincott third. One of the early leaders, Ryan Lippincott, ended up 4th and Christian Sunkler, fifth. Christian’s son, Wiliam was first junior and Connie Ranney was the first woman. Seven out of the 15 skippers won at least one heat and only 3 points separated the top four. This was a tight regatta.
Conditions were very puffy especially in the middle of the two lap windward leeward courses. The regatta featured a very nice buffet lunch and wonderful Indian Summer temperatures on the Lankford Creek off the Chester River in the eastern shore of the Chesapeake. Thanks to the attendees from the Oxford and West Jersey Fleets who made the scene as well as the host skippers from Rock Hall YC.
A round of applause for the regatta team of “go to gal”, Connie Ranney; Scott Ranney, PRO; Dawn Urbani and Heather Ransom, Scorekeepers.
