Thank You, George Appreciation Regatta

George Domenech has been the longest running Sail RC Dealer in the USA and the only Commodore that the Marco Island Model Yacht Club has ever had. It has been George who has built the fleet over the last ten years and has organized (with help from fleet mates) the annual RC Laser Midwinter Championship. This year the Marco Island Model YC hosted the North American Championship on the same weekend that normally holds the Midwinter Championship. At Saturday night’s banquet at this year’s regatta George announced that he would be possibly moving and his “commodore” successor would need to step up to keep the fleet running and ongoing. Should be no problem, they have an active group.

Since I was shamelessly still in Marco Island after the regatta, and since the Marco fleet sails on Thursday and Sunday afternoons, I thought we should have a Thank You, George Appreciation Regatta. George sent out an announcement to the fleet and I went to the Dollar Store for some rather cheap, tacky but St. Patty’s-Day-appropriate prizes and the normal sail on Sunday turned into a Thank You, George Appreciation Regatta. We sailed ten races and 12 boats showed up for the day….and it was a C sail great ride.

The participants were: Don Harthorn, Carl Hansen, Peter Rotch, Jim Craft, Happy Fox, Sloane Barbour, Yancy Brame, Ed Damstra, George Domenech, Nic Nicholson, Joel Krissoff and yours truly, Dave Branning.
