Harry Mote Wins RC Laser Shamrock Regatta
Ten Skippers raced on a perfect day with some very light and shifting winds. This year’s regatta was the regatta with no home. Both of the regular sailing venues were unavailable on the scheduled regatta day due to Riverton Yacht Club’s work party and Cooper River Yacht Club’s river dredging. So the regatta was sailed on March 26th at Mid-Atlantic’s Laurel Acres Park. The day before Easter regatta drew 10 sailors from NJ and PA with two newcomers to RCL racing. We welcome Joe Paradine and Phil Bodner. Both receiving pointers on their first regatta. The weather was so nice the breaks were welcomed to just sit and enjoy the sites and warm sun.
Harry Mote sailing his number 100 RCL for the second year had no problems holding off the fleet with scoring just 16 points and winning 5 of the twelve races. Dave Brawner placed second with 22 points and 3 first place finishes. Nick Mortgu rounded out the top three with 30 points also winning three races. Ivor Walton and Cape May Ray finished 4th and 5th, with Ivor winning one race. In all, twelve races were sailed with two throw-outs. Top five were presented with beautiful awards.
Thank you to West Jersey RC Laser Fleet Captain Jim Flach for Chairing and RD work with Dave Branning scoring, Skip Hall and John Stoudt Line Judges and recording.
