RC Laser 2020 Cold Turkey Regatta
by Mark Daddino
Raritan Yacht Club hosted its 3rd annual Cold Turkey regatta. This year’s championship regatta drew in 10 skippers from the NJ / NY area. We had sunny skies, temperatures ranging in the mid 50’s, with winds 8-10 kts from the SW. Among the competitors, we were honored to have Jon Elmaleh, designer of the RC Laser, race with us. What a treat for those who raced as Jon gave some tips based upon the current weather conditions.
Skippers competed in 19 races for the day, alternating between A and B sails. The course was windward-leeward with leeward gates. We utilized low-point scoring and had 1 throw out. The RYC Galley prepared a hot meal for the regatta with hot roasted turkey and stuffing sandwiches and chili along with homemade brownies for dessert.
Prizes were awarded to the top 3 skippers.
I would like to thank all those who competed in our regatta and made it a fun day of racing! Many thanks to our race committee Steve Fronapfel (PRO), Past Commodore Dawn Daddino (Scorekeeper), and Frank Scalisi (Racecourse).
