2019 St. Patrick’s Day RC Laser Regatta Report
by Mark Dadino
Raritan Yacht Club was proud to host the 2019 St. Patrick’s Day RC Laser Regatta. This year’s event drew in 28 skippers from several fleets around the New Jersey area. I would like to thank all those who competed in our regatta and made it a fun day of racing! We had sunny skies and temperatures from 33 degrees – 47 degrees with WNW wind between 5-10 knots with gusts at 18+ knots.
Skippers competed in 3 seeding races and were divided into Gold and Silver fleets, completing a total of 7 races for the day. The course was windward-leeward with leeward gates. We utilized low-point scoring and had 1 throw out. The RYC Galley prepared a special meal for the event with corned beef and turkey sandwiches, Irish soda bread, and Irish stew to warm the racers up.
Prizes were awarded to the top 3 skippers in both the Gold and Silver fleets. In the Gold fleet first place finisher Dave Brawner won 5 races. Ryan Lippincott won 2 races and second place finisher Jim Flach had 1 win. Silver fleet race winners were Dan Vought, Konrad Richter, Gary Myer, and Mark Daddino. Many thanks to our race committee Steve Fronapfel (PRO), Beth Hochberg (Scorer), Past Commodore Mark Soldati (Rescue Boat), and Frank Scalisi for setting the windward/leeward course.
