RC Laser 2019 Summer Regatta Report

Lake Naomi Club, Pocono Pines, PA

For our RC Laser Summer Regatta we look forward to three things: (1) a day without threatened or real precipitation, (2) the wind from the NW to accommodate our sailing venue and marks, and (3) decent wind speeds for our RC Lasers. Well, we got two out of three.

The forecast was for gusts up to 25 MPH. Optimistically, we all rigged up our ‘B’ sails and got started. It did not take too long for all of the skippers to switch to ‘C’ sails and we still got blown down or submarined occasionally. Things ran fairly smoothly with the occasional disabled boat and a quick change of the start sequence speaker batteries.

The Race Committee started with a few two lap races, then concluded that not much changed during the second lap, so we then ran single lap races for the rest of the day. This worked out well because the wind was parallel to the shore and we had a reasonably long course so there was sufficient up wind work to do.

The final scores after 24 races, with four throw-outs (1 per six races) follow:
